Thomas Kenny - according to the Mormon IGI (International Genealogical Index) - was born about 1849 at St. Theresa's Prince Edward Island - son of James Kenny and Anne Whalen (or Ehilen; or Whelan). Thomas was the brother of William James Kenny, and both were sons of James Kenny of County Tipperary, Ireland.

William James Kenny married Bridget Walsh and his brother, Thomas Kenny, married Ellen Walsh. The two wives are most likely sisters, daughters of James Walsh and Catherine ONeal, who descend from Michael Walsh of County Waterford, Ireland.
