Thomas Gurney

Thomas was the father of Susan Jane Gurney and the grandfather of Eleanor Jean Gurney. He was marred to Susan Jane Hughes on the 10th of November, 1863, on Prince Edward Island. He was a farmer.

Susan Jane Hughes was born in October of 1842 and died in PEI on the 26th of July, 1932.(07-26-1932: Susan Jane Hughes, widow of the late Thomas Gurney, and mother of Mrs. Allan Baird of Westmount, died at Western Cove Head, PEI, age 87 years.)

Thomas was born in Cornwall, England, the son of Samuel Gurney and Margaret Elliott.

He resided at Covehead, PEI, this village being in Township #34 of Queen's County. He is not listed in the 1901 Census but is listed in Lovell's PEI District in 1871 as being of Covehead: farmer. In the 1911 Census he is listed as being born in 1862 (sic) which should be: 1842. (born in March of that year) in England.

Thomas died on the 10th of June, 1923, in West Covehead, PEI and was buried there on the 12th.

On 6th of July, 1900 he was married to Christie Ann MacSwain, daughter of Angus and Jessie MacSwain (born 27th of November 1875, PEI; died 25th of JUne 1955, PEI; buried at Sherwood Cemetery, Charlottetown.
