William Lawman

William Lawman - dates unknown - and Elizabeth Newson were the parents of Sarah Lawman, who married Abraham King and was the mother of Mary Ann King. William Lawman and Elizabeth Newson were married in Essendon, Hertfordshire, in April of 1782.

There is a connection with the Lawman family to Cheshunt, in Hertfordshire. This is interesting in that Ellen King (my mother's mother) was born in Cheshunt (26 Lordship Road) = and her Aunt Fanny, sister of her father Frank King, lived in Flamstead End, at the outskirts of Cheshunt.

Elizabeth Newson (christened 27 July, 1760, Essendon, Herts) was the daughter of Abraham Newson and Elizabeth Hodsdon.

Besides Sarah, William and Elizabeth Lawman had the following children:

1. William Lawman, christened 17 October, 1790, in Essendon who married Susanna Unknown and had children: James, Fanny, Susanna, Jane and Mary.

2. James Lawman, married Unknown.

3. Fanny Lawman (* see below), c. 7 Sep 1800, Essendon, married James Tyler (11 Jul. 1824, Essendon)

4. Ann Lawman c. 16 Feb/ 1784, Essendon, Herts

5. Thomas Lawman c. 17 Aug. 1788, Essendon, Herts

6. Abraham Lawman c. 22 Mar. 1795, Essendon, Herts

7. John Lawman c. 15 Jan. 1786, Essendon, Herts, m. (1) Mary Phipps (9 June 1821, Essendon) and (2) Elizabeth Elliss (23 Nov. 1828, Essendon).

* Fanny Lawman and James Tyler resided in Essendon. In the 1851 Census, she and James are living in Essendon with her 17 year old nephew, William King (possibly 'our' William (Webb) King. In 1881, Fanny Tyler (widow) is living at Bridground, Essendon, with her brother James Lawman (age 88, widower), and nephew, William King (age 12, born Stroud, Gloucester). This William was the son of William Webb King and Ellen Hobbs Townsend. (Ellen was from Stroud Water, Gloucester - her maiden name being Townsend. She was a widow of James Hobbes by whom she also had a daughter, Annie.
