James Gunn (born 22 June, 1884) and Bertha McKenzie (born August 1887) were the parents of Sheldon Robert Gunn (father of Marie Elaine Gunn). They also had children: Alvin, Ethel, Wilbert, Katie and Jean. They resided at Lot 39, Mt. Stewart, Prince Edward Island.

In the 1911 Census of Prince Edward Island - James Gunn; residence -West St. Peter's; born June 1884 (age 26); Scotch Presbyterian; farmer. Wife - Bertha, born August 1887; age 23; Scotch Presbyterian. James was 17 in the 1901 Census of PEI (see below)..
