Almas was born on 5 March 1786 in New Germantown (now 'Oldwick'), Hunterdon
County, New Jersey. He died on 23 October 1872 in Barton Twp., Wentworth Co.,
Ontario and was buried in Barton Stone Church Cemetery, Barton Twp., Wentworth
Co., ON. He was the son of Christian
Almas and Magdalena Backer.
David
married Hannah Hess, daughter of Jacob Hess and
Elizabeth Horning, on 23 May 1814 in Barton Twp., Wentworth Co., ON. Hannah
was born 28 Septemer 1795 in Gloucester, New Jersey. She died on 8 August 1872
in Barton Twp., Wentworth Co., ON and was buried in Barton Stone Church Cemetery.
David was a Prebyterian.

David Almas, of the Township of Barton, Co. of Wentworth and Province of Canada,
Yeoman, do make and publish this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking
and making void all former wills by me made.
First,
I wil and bequeath to my fifth son William, Lot number eight in the eight
concession of the Township of Barton, Co. of Wentworth and Province aforesaid;
I further will and bequeath to my son David, Lot number nine in the 8th concession
in the township of Barton, Province aforesaid. It is further my will and d
esire that my said son David shall have the use and benefit of the timber
on a square blok of Ten Acres of land from the Sounth West corner of lot eight
in the eight concessions of Barton aforesaid; it is further my will and esire
that my aforesaid sons William and David shall support my wife Hannah Almas
during time she remains my Widow, in all the necessaries of life by each paying
an equal share; it is further my will and desire that all my goods and chattels
whatever they may be at the time of my death I will and bequeath to my aforesaid
son David; it is further my will and desire that my said sons William and
David shall jointly pay or case to be paid to my eldest son Jacob, my second
son Christopher, my third son Michael and my fourth son Henry each the sum
of twelve pounds ten shillings currency which said sums atre to be paid two
years after my death; it is further my will and desire that my said son William
shall pay twenty-five pounds currency and my said son David, thirty-seven
pounds ten shillings currency to my daughter Elizabeth Catherine Neff each
to pay twelve pounds ten shillings currency one year after my death and the
remainder three years after my death. I wish distinctly to be understood that
I have given by deed the several portions of land to my said four oldest sons
Jacob, Christopher, Michael and Henry and I do hereby make and ordain Peter
Hess Junior and Jacob Almas Executors of this my last will and Testament.
In witness whereof I David Almas the Testator have to this my Will set my
hand and seal this twenty third day of January in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and fifty-five.
